Yi Chen
Artist Bio & Statement
Iām Yi Chen, I am a Fine art Practice major student. The work I show this time is what I created in three classes this semester. The reason why I show it is because I spent a lot of energy and time making these works, and I want to share the art I created with everyone. It is also through display to gain recognition.
Five of them are from the Drawing 3 course. Both Project 2.2 and Final Project 1.1 of Drawing 3 are realistic figures. I drew it with a pencil. In Final project 1.2, I painted with oil pastels and canvas, which can increase the texture of the picture. Oil pastels can draw bright and abstract characters in a visual style that is completely different from 1.1. This is also the subject of our professor's request. Draw two characters in opposite styles.
Project2.3 A-2.3C is based on the same character creation with different colors and painting methods to show the character's emotions. I chose red, yellow, and blue, with three different shades. Red represents enthusiasm for life, yellow represents positivity, and blue is my favorite color representing quietness and precipitation. I paint with gouache.
In the second oil painting class, this Strata is an abstract painting. I have gained enough gains from this work, so that I have a great harvest in the oil painting creation process. It also made me find my own oil painting style. The material used is Glitter Glue and acrylic. I really like to use Glitter Glue to create my abstract oil paintings. Through this project, I broke through my own oil painting level. Also let me find myself Glitter Glue representative style.
Finally, Figure Drawing 3, the Self-Portrait, was drawn with a pencil. This is my first self-portrait. Through this work, I have a clear understanding of my facial features and the contours of the characters. It let me no longer be afraid of drawing myself. I also got a lot of encouragement and recognition from this work. Let me have more confidence in my artistic creation.
