Major: Fine Arts Practice, BFA

Due to the current situation the rest of us are going through, I have no choice but to change the whole artistic process for my show as I am limited with materials (my orders online have been delayed due to the extended shipping thus affecting the timing for me to create my work) and so I have to start anew. Truth be told, since shelter in place occured, I find myself feeling a lot unmotivated. But at the same time, this has helped me realize what I want my show to be about.

In the times that we are going through right now, I try to build a world that is undeniably separate from the one we live in. Something that fascinates me about art is that it doesn't matter what kind of artistic medium one will use for their work yet it's able to pull the viewer out of their own world and place them within a space that is more alive at least for them.

Through my works, I hope that the viewer will be able to see an alternate reality, one that mixes painterly qualities with surrealism, abstract and fantasy and be able to feel something they wouldn't normally feel. I want the viewer to focus on the subject and concept which are pulling us deeper into a world that allows us to escape our reality in exchange for a fantasy. And for them to feel something within whether it makes them happy, downhearted, or even numb.

It is my goal to make something that others may find to be either boring, disturbing, or weird, to take a simple concept (be it places, objects, people, birth, death, or even life) and molds it into something complex. I explored surrealism and abstract through my work in order to show that reality has intricate ties with fantasy. Though my abstract surrealistic artwork is more representative of how life is because they contain my own feelings and emotions that resonate with the viewers. I try to understand the concept of exploring the depths of mind and soul and reach for something deeper than the reality that plagues us and traps us daily.
